Strong Science Olympiad Program

Our team has qualified for the state meet six of the last nine years.

Last year, our Science Olympiad team placed 11th in the state, capturing first p-place medals in two events. At the 2009 Illinois Science Olympiad Meet at the University of Illinois in Champaign, the Pope John XXIII Science Olympiad Team medaled in eight events and received a 5th place plaque for the team.  And for the first time in Pope John XXIII Science Oylympiad history, Pope John won theIllinois State Science Olympiad Spirit Award.  This is based on sportsmanship, enthusiasm, cooperation, helpfulness, and attitude. 

Pope John qualified to be part of this prestigious competition based on itsr performance at the Regional meet. Three Pope John XXIII teams that won 1st place at state, four teams that earned 4th place in their event, and one 2nd place award.

Pope John placed 5th in the state in 2007 and went home with a 1st place in Wheeled Vehicle. Overall it brought home six medals from the state meet in 2007. We placed 6th in the regional in 2001; 2nd in the regional in 2002; 4th in the regional in 2003; 6th in 2005. Our teams won three medals in the state competition in 2003: 1st place in Mystery Architecture, 2nd place in Balloon Race, and 3rd place in Picture This. In 2005 our team medaled in three events: 1st in Bottle Rockets, 2nd in Sound of Music, and 3rd in Naked Egg Drop. Our Science Olympiad team total standing is 11th in the state.
