Student Life

We have very talented, active, service-oriented students here at Pope John XXIII. Every grade from preschool to eighth grade is active in service projects throughout the school year. Some of the service involves sharing their special talent like singing at Barnes and Noble and at a nursing home. Sometimes it involves dancing at a parish function. It may mean making placemats for the soup kitchen at Thanksgiving or decorating Valentines or Christmas cards for the shut-ins delivered by Little Brothers of the Poor.

Sometimes it involves collecting donations for various causes. The second graders collected for Unicef at Halloween time. During March and April the 4th graders collected money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The fourth graders collected money from the whole school and had a "friendly competition" between the two 4th grade homerooms to see who could raise the most money for the society.

Our seventh graders collected donations for the Heifer Foundation. Recently they counted their collection and were surprised to see that they had enough money to buy a water buffalo, a goat, and two flocks of chickens for a family in need in a third world country.
