At Pope John XXIII School, our students participate in a rich array of enrichment programs that inspire their creativity, leadership, and personal growth. It gives them opportunities to explore their interests beyond the classroom.
Each of our enrichment programs is designed to help students grow as individuals and explore their talents, preparing them for a well-rounded future. Whether they are creating music, performing on stage, or leading their peers, our students thrive in a supportive environment that values both academic and personal development. Explore our Enrichment Programs:
Chess Club
For students in grades K and up, our Chess Club is a welcoming space where students of all skill levels can learn, play, and grow in the game of chess. Through friendly matches, strategy lessons, and team competitions, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and good sportsmanship. Drama Club – PJ Players
For students in grades 4 and up, our PJ Players Drama Club provides an exciting opportunity to explore acting, stagecraft, and production. Through participation in plays and performances, students build confidence, creativity, and teamwork, while developing an appreciation for the arts. Quiz Bowl
Our Quiz Bowl team is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade students to showcase their academic knowledge and quick thinking in a fun, competitive environment. Participants prepare for and compete in academic quiz bowl competitions, answering questions across a wide range of subjects including history, science, literature, mathematics, current events, and more. Being part of this team helps students develop critical thinking skills, teamwork, and confidence. Piano and Violin
Music is a key part of our enrichment offerings, with options for students at various grade levels. Our private, in-house piano and violin lessons led by experienced instructors offer additional music enrichment. Students are nurtured at both beginners and advanced levels in their musical journey. Violin students occasionally perform at school Masses, sharing their talents with the school community and enhancing the spiritual experience. Piano students participate in seasonal recitals, allowing them to showcase their progress and share their love of music. Band
Starting in 4th grade, students can join our band, where they learn to play instruments and develop teamwork and discipline through ensemble practice. Through regular practice and group rehearsals, our band students learn discipline, dedication, and collaboration. They also enjoy numerous performance opportunities throughout the school year, developing stage presence, poise, and self-confidence. Choir
Additionally, students in grades 3 and up can join our PJ23 Choir, which is a proud branch of the Evanston’s Children Choir (ECC). This provides our young vocalists to develop their musical talents and perform in the community. They are prepared for advanced opportunities including performing at venues like Orchestra Hall. This choir offers students a strong foundation in choral singing, teamwork, and confidence-building. Student Council
Our 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through Student Council. As representatives of the student body, council members organize events, foster school spirit, and develop skills in communication, responsibility, and civic engagement. |
